Preached by Michael Ly on August 17th, 2008

The advancement of the gospel is happening all across the world, but not without the price of suffering for those who are in the battle. As suffering comes, members of the Philippian church were tempted to become selfish and focus on their own safety and needs. Paul exhorts them to unity by looking at the example of Jesus, who went straight to the cross for victory.

Must Christianity Change or Die? The Shaping of Faith and Culture, Part II
Written by Mike Gunn courtesy of Hollywood Jesus

Last month, Mike looked at the notion that the guardians of the Gospel—the “Good News”—have corrupted its message by (very naturally) getting too caught up in Western thinking. This month, he takes a look at the good news no one seems to give a good rip about. Read More

CSNY/Déjà vu
A Documentary by Michael Ceres
Reviewed by Mike Gunn

I saw Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (CSNY) in 1976 in Springfield Massachusetts. I loved their music, and was excited to see them only to be let down by idiot fans who booed them, and threw bottles when they changed their set to acoustic wiping out some of their great songs like Ohio, Find the Cost of Freedom and Chicago, all anti-war songs that resonate with many of us till this day. I don't think there is any dispute that the church created a monster when it stuck itself into the political fray. Unfortunately, both sides use ad hominum language to make their points. All of American life seems to have a political component to it now. The church should participate in culture, not as wielders of political power but as humble sojourners with a better story to tell. Instead we have incorporated this human structure, to do God's will. Read More

"...I've benefited from your teaching. But the fact is that I regularly listen to your messages on my commute to and from work and consider them an important tool in the growth of my personal faith. I wanted you to know that those podcasts don't just end up in some cyberspace black hole. They touch people."

Liturgy: One of the things that makes Harambee unique is our use of a form of Liturgy as part of our corporate worship on Sundays. We invite you to join us in our Liturgical journey of Worship.

Telling the Story

This story really began the end of last Spring when I became the main provider in my home for myself and my children. Since then, several amazing events have happened.
In the beginning, I had a plan, and was confident that I’d be okay, because of it, until my plan didn’t work out. I had to question if I had confidence because I had a plan or because I had God. I literally was in the position of being steps away from being out of my house, without a provisional job when some pivotal things happened. Read More
